Jaipur: Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma of Rajasthan has undertaken an unprecedented 32 trips to Delhi in his first ten months in office, setting a record for the state. His efforts to secure essential resources and support from the central government reflect his commitment to pushing development forward. His trips often occur on weekends to ensure minimal disruption to state governance. Sharma’s close association with Union Minister Prahlad Joshi, who played a pivotal role in his appointment, highlights the strategic collaboration between the state and central governments.
Sharma has also taken significant steps to attract foreign investment. In a week-long tour to Japan and South Korea, he invited investors to participate in Rajasthan’s upcoming ‘Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit 2024,’ scheduled for December. His national presence has also grown, evidenced by his participation in campaigns in other states like Haryana.
Despite his ambitious development agenda, Sharma faces increasing challenges within his party. Dissent has surfaced, particularly with figures like Kirori Lal Meena, who has openly criticized the administration. Furthermore, Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa has become embroiled in corruption allegations, exacerbated by a controversial five-star hotel incident during a Delhi trip. These issues have complicated the government’s internal dynamics.
The BJP leadership is also concerned about the slow progress of its membership campaign in Rajasthan, with leaders like state in-charge Radha Mohan Agarwal and state president Madan Rathore failing to meet targets.
