NewsDelhi Police prepared for G20 summit security

New Delhi

The Delhi Police are fully prepared for the G20 summit and security arrangements for the same have been completed. While addressing a press conference, Madhup Tiwari, Special CP Protective Security Division, said, “With repeated rehearsals and training, we are fully prepared and confident in the security arrangements for the G20 Summit”. He added: “We have taken assistance from CAPF’s NSG, and for some specialised operations, we have taken assistance from the armed forces too.” Talking about the special training given to police personnel, he said role-based micro-functioning training has been given to security personnel who have been briefed about their roles during the summit. Delhi is on high alert ahead of the summit. Traffic restrictions are in place so that residents do not face inconveniences due to the security arrangements.

Tiwari said that till now, Delhi Police have not received any input about any kind of threat during the summit. On police deployment, he said that each venue is under the supervision of one Special CP-level officer, and the hotels where delegates will stay are under the supervision of one DCP-level officer. Over half the force is involved in the security arrangements in the New Delhi district. Keeping in mind the security arrangements for the G20 summit, drones, UAVs, UASs, microlight aircraft, and hot air balloons, have been banned in NCT-Delhi. Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora said this ban will commence from 29 August until 12 September for a period of 15 days. This is a precautionary measure, as anti-social elements or terrorists may pose a security threat to this historical meeting. Delhi Police has made special security arrangements for the G20 meeting. QRT (quick response teams), ambulances, and firefighting teams have been deployed at key marked points. The police will carry out full dress rehearsals on 2 and 3 September. In view of this review, certain traffic restrictions have been imposed. NSG commandos, in coordination with the Indian Air Force, also carried out mock drills near the hotels to tackle any emergency situation. The New Delhi district has been marked as a controlled zone. Suman Nalwa, PRO, Delhi Police, said claims about a lockdown during the summit are false. She said as many heads of state and international organisations are coming to participate, “we have put certain restrictions on traffic movement”. Establishments in the district, except for essential services, will remain shut from 8 to 10 September. Residents have been advised to use the Delhi Metro for commuting, as there will be no restrictions on Metro services. However, entry and exit at the Supreme Court Metro station will not be allowed on 9 and 10 September.
