Ladakh is not a cakewalk for BJP

NewsLadakh is not a cakewalk for BJP

SRINAGAR: ‘The mood on the ground is anti BJP and people want Centre to listen to the demands of Ladakh,’ said Sajad Kargili, a senior Kargil Democratic Alliances leader.

While there is a lot of anger in UT of Ladakh against the central government’s delay to provide statehood along with self-governance and autonomy, opposition has started fighting each other making the coming election for the single parliamentary segment more unpredictable and fluid.

It is worth mentioning that there is huge unrest in Ladakh and the agitation is being led by Sonam Wangchuk along with Ladakh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance.

Sensing the mood on the ground against the sitting MP, BJP dropped him and nominated Tashi Gyalson, who is presently heading BJP-led Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Counsel.

There is a twist in the opposition camp of Ladakh. On Wednesday, Congress and National Conference Alliance announced their candidate Haji Haneif Jan from Kargil. But the Leh unit of Congress announced Tsering Namgyal as a candidate, triggering chaos on the ground among the opposition activists.

Former Congress Minister and senior Congress leader of Leh Nawang Rigzin Jora termed the Congress unit’s move in Kargil as “a decision made locally”. “It’s not supported by Leh,” Mr. Jora said. Senior Congress leader Nasir Munshi, who is in Delhi, has suggested that Mr. Jan is “a joint candidate” of the INDIA bloc.

After BJP dropped incumbent MP of Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, he has decided to fight as an independent candidate.

Like Kashmir valley UT of Ladakh is witnessing political turmoil both in BJP and opposition camps and it is very difficult to predict who will win this lone seat from Ladakh.

While the election scenario is fluid in the UT of Ladakh, common people are holding protests and want not only statehood but the legislative assembly along with constitutional safeguards for their land and jobs.

“The mood on the ground is anti BJP and people want centre to listen to the demands of Ladakh” said Sajad Kargili, a senior KDA leader and has decided to fight as an independent candidate.

Sajad Kargili will add to the mess already prevailing in the political scenario of Ladakh
It is in place to mention that the parliamentary segment of Ladakh will go to polls on May 20 and it would be a very interesting contest between INDIA alliance and BJP.

When the central government enacted the Jammu and Kashmir reorganization Act 2019 Ladakh was recognized as Union Territory without any legislature.
