NDMC approved the annual estimate for the maintenance of the parks and gardens in 2023—2024.

NEW DELHI

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has approved the sanction of an estimated amount of Rs 748 lakhs for “Annual Maintenance of Parks and Gardens during 2023–24.”
On November 29, 2023, NDMC approved the annual estimate for the maintenance of the parks and gardens in 2023–2024 in the NDMC area in its council meeting, which was presided over by Amit Yadav, chairperson of NDMC. In the council meeting, members of the NDMC, along with all the dignitaries, considered and approved the various citizen-centric, infrastructure-, and employee welfare-related proposals.
NDMC approximately maintains 1,100 acres of public green space within its jurisdiction, which comprises gardens, colony parks, roadside trees, roundabouts, school greens, etc.
The council has also approved amendments to the previous orders regarding the requirement of documentary proof of ownership or occupancy for the granting of a health license. This amendment, passed only for proof of ownership and other document requirements, remains the same as the previous.
Meanwhile, NDMC has decided to rename ‘Aurobindo Marg’ under its jurisdiction as ‘Sri Aurobindo Marg’. said Satish Upadhyay, Vice Chairperson of the NDMC.

He said earlier also to respect the sentiments of people, we have changed the names of roads, streets, and institutions to recognise and honour the great men and women of our time.
He stated that Aurobindo Marg is a long road that stretches from the end of Tughlak Road to the Qutab Minar in Mehrauli. Although in NDMC, the Aurobindo Marg starts from the end of Tughlak Road and ends at Yusuf Sarai Market, the rest of the road, i.e., from Yusuf Sarai to Qutab Minar, comes under the jurisdiction of PWD.

NDMC also gave its nod to an updated proposal for the Operation, Repair, and Maintenance of Existing PTUs, CTUs, and Roll Call Centres in lieu of Advertisement Rights in the NDMC Area on the PPP Model.

The tendering process for maintaining facilities is divided into four groups. These included Group A (for maintaining 43 public and community toilet units), Group B (for 66 sites), Group C (56 sites), and Group D (for 25 sites).

Upadhyay said, “The civic body has been attempting to invite contractors since 2018 for the cleaning of toilets using different methods, including one wherein NDMC will clean the toilets on its own and charge an amount for giving advertisement rights. However, this has resulted in the agency getting no response to the repeated call for tenders, forcing it to maintain these public conveniences on its own and spend Rs 1 crore annually.”
