NewsParties prepare their workers for Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections

SRINAGAR: For the upcoming Assembly elections, BJP and regional parties have started to prepare their cadres, who would interact with the masses on a large scale.

As media reports are making rounds that all decks have been cleared to hold Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP and regional parties like NC and PDP have started preparing their cadres for these elections.

Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah along with BJP president JP Nadda, has signalled the party’s unit in Jammu and Kashmir to look for candidates in the upcoming assembly elections. BJP leadership has started to monitor all those states and UTs where the Assembly elections are due, including Jharkhand and Haryana. After the Lok Sabha elections, Shah is keenly monitoring all these states and the final decision would be taken by the party high command about the selection of candidates. J&K BJP head Ravinder Raina told the media that their party cadres are set for the Assembly elections.

It is in place to mention that a high level meeting was held at the party headquarters in New Delhi in which BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santhosh, Union Minister and Election In charge for J&K, G. Kishan Reddy, National General Secretary In charge J&K, Tarun Chugh and Co-In charge Ashish Sood, participated.

The meeting was presided over by BJP President J.P. Nadda, while two MPs from Jammu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and J&K BJP Chief Ravinder Raina were also present.
“Mass contact programme with the general public would be initiated soon, especially in Jammu region and two BJP MPs from Jammu Dr Jitendra Singh and Jugal Kishore Sharma would be participating in these programmes”, Raina said.

Recently, National Conference Vice President and Former Chief Minister of J&K Omar Abdullah told the media that he has no reason to doubt about the holding of Assembly elections. Reports have suggested that elections would be held in Jammu and Kashmir after the conclusion of Amarnath Yatra, which is slated to end on August 19.

Assembly elections have not been held in Jammu and Kashmir after the 2014 elections and on August 5, 2019, the state was designated as a union territory along with Ladakh.
Regional parties especially National Conference and PDP have started to galvanise their cadres.

Former Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti is in touch with several former colleagues who have left the party, so that she can have the required faces in her public outreach programme for the coming Assembly elections. National Conference recently held a two- day meeting to discuss the manifesto for the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
