PM plans coalition consolidation with Governor nominations from allies

Top 5PM plans coalition consolidation with Governor nominations from allies

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is said to be planning to consolidate his alliance government by appointing some leaders from the allies as Governors. This could be a significant move in making the National Democratic Alliance government stronger. More than half a dozen new Governors are to be appointed in the coming months, where caste equations and party dynamics may act as deciding factors in the selection of Governors. Looking at the pressures of Jat politics, a Jat leader may again be made a Governor. The BJP had made Jat leader Satpal Malik a Governor, but its experience with him was bad. He had started questioning his own government. So to give a message of inclusivity to the Jat community, the post of Vice President was given to Jagdeep Dhankhar, who belongs to that community. After that, an alliance was made with RLD leader Jayant Chaudhary’s party. Even after all this, BJP was disappointed in the Jat dominated areas of Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh and Haryana in the Lok Sabha elections. In such a situation, it has to be seen which state’s Jat leader gets the chance this time.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra is trying to become Governor once again after his term ends next month. There are indications that new Governors can be appointed during the budget session next month. Apart from Rajasthan, the tenures of Governors Anandiben Patel of Uttar Pradesh, Acharya Devvart of Gujarat, Arif Mohammad Khan of Kerala, Bandaru Dattatreya of Haryana, Ramesh Bais of Maharashtra, Ansuiya Uike of Manipur, Fagu Chauhan of Meghalaya are going to end in the coming months. Banwari Lal Purohit of Punjab has already resigned. New appointments are to be made soon in place of these Governors. Many names are being mentioned in the race, including that of Maneka Gandhi, V.K. Singh, Santosh Gangwar from Uttar Pradesh, former Union Health Minister Harshvardhan from Delhi and Ashwani Choubey from Bihar. A leader from either Jat or Meena caste from Rajasthan might also be considered. Although there are a large number of contenders in BJP but this time to strengthen the relationship with allies, one or two leaders from JDU and TDP can also be made Governors. K.C. Tyagi from JDU is a possible contender.
PM Modi is running a coalition government for the first time. So every move he makes is going to impact all the allies and the NDA itself. Henceforth, it becomes imperative for the PM to think before he acts. At this point PM Modi has made it apparent that he is under no pressure. When it comes to forming the Cabinet and assigning portfolios, the Prime Minister has chosen how departments are distributed without any pressure from allies. The alliance seems strong so far. So now the Prime Minister aims to demonstrate alliance unity in appointing governors. These appointments are set to take place between July and September, with the expectation that all names will be announced by July.
