Mumbai court grants bail to Actor Sahil Khan

Legally SpeakingMumbai court grants bail to Actor Sahil Khan

NEW DELHI: A Mumbai court has granted bail to actor Sahil Khan in the Mahadev betting app case. Additional Sessions Judge V.M. Pathade approved his bail application on 3rd July, though the detailed order was not yet available. In his plea, the actor claimed that most of the allegations against him were “speculative” and lacked concrete evidence. The complaint filed against the actor was politically motivated, according to the plea filed through advocate Faiz Merchant. The application noted that not a single member or player using the Mahadev Online Book app—accused of facilitating online betting on various games and activities—had filed a complaint against any of the accused named in the First Information Report (FIR). It also pointed out that Khan had cooperated with the investigation since his arrest. The actor was arrested in April this year from Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh after the Bombay High Court rejected his pre-arrest bail plea. Known for films like “Style” and “Excuse Me,” Khan now works as a fitness expert. A special investigation team is probing alleged illegal transactions between certain financial and real estate firms and the promoters of the controversial app. According to the FIR registered by the Matunga police, the size of the scam is about Rs 15,000 crore. The police, in their reply to the bail plea, stated that the investigation was ongoing against Sahil Khan and 31 other individuals. The Enforcement Directorate is also investigating the money laundering aspect of the case.
