NewsKashmir to emerge as Global Golf Destination: Tourism Officials

SRINAGAR: J&K aims to boost golf tourism by hosting international tournaments and showcasing its premier courses in Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam.

The J&K administration and the Directorate of Tourism Kashmir are working to establish the Kashmir valley as a premier global golf destination.
Advisor to LG Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar recently affirmed their commitment to enhancing golf tourism in Kashmir. From April to November each year, golfers flock to the valley, attracted by its picturesque courses in Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam.

To boost golf tourism, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha recently inaugurated the 44th PSPB Inter-Unit Golf Tournament at the Royal Springs Golf Course in Srinagar. He invited golfers to experience the Union Territory and share the transformative story of Jammu and Kashmir. During the inauguration, Sinha highlighted the region’s progress over the past few years.

To attract global golfers, J&K Tourism is planning additional tournaments to showcase the stunning courses at various tourist spots. In recent months, well-known golfers and prominent cricketers such as Ajay Jadeja, Yuvraj Singh, and Ajit Agarkar have visited Kashmir to play golf.

Director of Tourism Kashmir Yaqoob Raja stated that the government’s efforts are aimed at promoting Kashmir as a world-class sports destination, particularly for golf. “We are working to organise international golf tournaments here,” Raja said.

He noted that a recent tournament saw participation from 96 players across the country. Raja expressed optimism about holding a major international golf event with the support of the central government soon. “We have three golf courses in Kashmir that meet international standards, and we are committed to hosting more tournaments to establish Kashmir as an international golf destination,” Raja added.
