IIFA heads to Madrid for its upcoming edition

It’s almost that time of the year when your favorite Bollywood stars head abroad to a different corner of the globe for the annual Bollywood extravaganza — the IIFA awards weekend. The awards show which has firmly established itself in the diary of fans and stars alike is being held in Madrid, Spain this year from the 23rd to the 26th of June. The Spanish capital beat out competition from Mauritius, Macau and Abu Dhabi before being finalized. The Zoya Akhtar film, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara which was extensively shot in Spain led to a huge spurt in Indian tourists visiting the country, and Spanish authorities are probably hoping for a re-run of that after this year’s IIFA edition.

So while Hrithik Roshan, Sonakshi Sinha and Anil Kapoor recently made a quick trip to Madrid to drum up buzz in the city for the filmy spectacle, Anil was joined by Farhan Akhtar at an event in Delhi to announce this year’s star-studded line-up. After a gap of a few years, box office king Salman Khan returns to the IIFA stage to headline the performances for this year’s awards. Bollywood’s recent exports to Hollywood, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone will also be taking time out to attend and perform at the event. IIFA regulars Hrithik Roshan and Sonakshi Sinha will also be performing this year.

For those of you who enjoyed the bromance and crazy antics of the Gunday duo Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh as the crazy hosts for IIFA last year, well there’s disappointing news, as they have not been chosen for an encore this year. The more experienced duo of Farhan Akhtar and Shahid Kapoor, who have hosted 2 ceremonies before make a comeback as co-hosts this year. Farhan and Shahid, who invented the host-pseudonyms of Raju and Pappu for each other, will hope to impress once again, although this decision left some wondering whether Ritesh Deshmukh and Boman Irani would ever make a comeback in future years to don the host’s mantle at IIFA.

Well, the weekend may be all about star power, but there are also the awards to be handed out and since it is literally the last award of the year, there would be stiff competition between the teams of Bajirao Mastani, Piku, Bajrangi Bhaijaan or Dil Dhadakne Do over who would sweep the golden statues. So, come June and Bollywood galore would be ready to head to Spain for another glitzy weekend when it’s time to say Lights, Camera, IIFA.
