Ayurvedic herbs for hair care

Ayurvedic herbs for hair care

Today, herb, flower, and fruit extracts, essential oils, and other natural substances are used for skin and hair treatments.
Here are some of the Ayurvedic herbs for hair care, along with their beauty benefits:
Amla: Amla is one of the most popular ingredients for hair care. It is said to be the richest source of vitamin C. In fact, the vitamin C in amla is said to be so stable that it is resistant to heat. It is a natural antioxidant, also known to prevent greying and hair loss. Since amla is said to check greying, you can have the juice of one raw amla daily after adding it to a glass of water. You can also add dry amla powder to henna hair packs.  To make amla hair oil, take a handful of dry amla. Grind it coarsely and add it to 100 ml of pure coconut oil. Keep it in an airtight glass bottle and keep the bottle in the sun daily for about 15 days. Then strain the oil and store it. The oil can be applied to the hair.
Holy Basil:  Tulsi (holy basil) has so many medicinal uses that it has been traditionally venerated and worshipped. Modern research has revealed that it helps to purify the air, apart from its soothing and curative actions. It has powerful germicidal properties and can be used in hair packs and hair rinses to protect the hair from dandruff and keep the scalp healthy.  Tulsi juice can be taken once a week to strengthen the roots and promote hair growth. Or, make a paste of tulsi leaves and add it to pure coconut oil. Apply it to your hair the night before your shampoo. It helps to control dandruff and reduce itching. It also has a cooling effect and stimulates the hair follicles.
Dry tulsi leaves and powder them. Mix it with dry and powdered amla. Soak overnight and apply the paste to the hair. Wash off with plenty of water after an hour. This mixture helps control greying hair.
Ashwagandha: Ashwagandha is often described as the Indian version of ginseng because, like ginseng, ashwagandha is revered as a non-specific tonic and adaptogen. Adaptogens are important in cases of stress-related conditions like dandruff, hair loss, and scalp eruptions. Ashwagandha relaxes blood vessels and stimulates circulation. It has an anti-inflammatory and tonic effect. Ashwagandha powder is available in Ayurvedic shops. The powder can be mixed with amla and trifala powder and a little warm water to make a hair pack. Apply to the hair and wash off with plenty of water after half an hour.
Trifala: This common Ayurvedic ingredient is a combination of three herbs: amla, haritaki, and vibhitika. It is said to promote hair growth and restore health to the scalp. Trifala powder is available. Simmer 2 tablespoons of trifala powder. Leave overnight to cool. The next morning, use the powder like a pack and apply it to the hair. Rinse off after 20 to 30 minutes.
Brahmi:  Brahmi is also called Indian pennywort and is a very common ingredient for hair care. It is said to be beneficial in stress-related conditions, as it reduces stress and induces relaxation. It has been used for oily scalp conditions, including dandruff and hair loss. It is also helpful for stress-related hair loss. If you can get fresh Brahmi leaves, make a paste and apply it to the hair like a pack. Or, you may get the dry leaves at an Ayurvedic shop. Add a little water to make a paste and apply the pack to the hair, washing it off after 20 to 30 minutes.
