SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts), an esteemed music academy and cultural organization in India founded by the late Pandit Bhajan Sopori and Pt. Abhay Rustum Sopori, hosted the 19th Annual SaMaPa Sangeet Sammelan from November 3rd to 5th, 2023, at Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi.
The event, presented in collaboration with IndianOil and IFFCO, celebrated music from Jammu & Kashmir and honored Pt. Bhajan Sopori.
The festival drew music enthusiasts from across India and abroad and paid homage to the Great Saint musician Pt. Bhajan Sopori. It showcased a lineup of renowned and emerging artists in Indian classical music, including Ustad Murad Ali Khan, Vidushi Shashwati Mandal, and Pandit Deepak Maharaj among others.
Special performances featured Raga Bhajaneshwari by Pt. Abhay Sopori and a Kathak legacy presentation by Deepak Maharaj and Ragini Maharaj.
Additionally, the event presented prestigious awards, recognizing contributions to culture and music. Pt. Dalchand Sharma, Dr. Rosalin Patasani Mishra, Sh. Shahnaz Rasheed, and others were honored for their significant cultural contributions. Pt. Abhay Rustum Sopori expressed the festival’s role in nurturing young talent and promoting India’s cultural heritage. This year’s event was a tribute to the festival’s visionary founder, Pt. Bhajan Sopori, ensuring the legacy of cultural enrichment continues.
