Regardless of the allegations against him, the people of Andhra Pradesh regarded Rajasekhara Reddy as their own, their beloved son.

His relentless fight for Telangana’s statehood was monumental, ultimately leading to the creation of Telangana as a separate state. KCR, as he is commonly known, had spent decades nurturing the Telangana Rashtra Samiti Party. However, despite his monumental achievement, the warmth and connectivity with the people that characterized Rajasekhara Reddy’s leadership were notably absent in KCR’s rule.

In the past two elections, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti dominated the political landscape, with little competition from other parties, including a weakened Congress and a nascent BJP. However, the upcoming election paints a different picture. The BJP has strengthened its presence in Telangana, while the Congress, under the leadership of Revanth Reddy and with support from Rahul Gandhi, is mounting a formidable challenge. Moreover, Y.S. Rajashekareddy’s daughter, Sharmila, is poised to join the Congress, injecting fresh momentum into the party.
Congress has announced a slew of free schemes targeting various demographics, especially women, in Telangana. This has created a favourable atmosphere for the party, setting the stage for a fierce three-way competition in Telangana’s political arena.
As Telangana gears up for its impending election, which is fast approaching, the political landscape is set to witness a tectonic shift. The stage is set for a battle of ideologies and leadership styles, with the fate of Telangana hanging in the balance.
