Congress ready for legal battle citing ‘irregularities’ in Haryana polls

NewsCongress ready for legal battle citing ‘irregularities’ in Haryana polls

Congress forms eight-member committee to gather evidence against what it calls were BJP’s ‘manipulation practices and irregularities’.

Chandigarh: The Congress party has said it will explore legal action over alleged “irregularities” in Haryana elections. This move has been decided after multiple candidates raised concerns over irregularities in the recent Haryana elections. According to these Congress candidates the electoral process was unfair, a claim Congress says it would reflect over.
Jitender Baghel, who has been appointed co-incharge of Haryana Congress, stated that the party is compiling evidence to substantiate its claims.
“We have collected reports and statements from candidates. These will be submitted to the party high command for further legal action,” Baghel said.
Congress’ has kept this stance despite the Election Commission of India (ECI) dismissing these claims as “baseless.”
To spearhead this initiative, Congress has formed an eight-member investigative committee under the leadership of former Minister Karan Dalal, who will assess the alleged manipulations reportedly conducted by the ruling BJP.
“These statements from our candidates clearly suggest that the election was not fair. We will present our findings to the All India Congress Committee (AICC),” Dalal stated.
He emphasised that the next steps would depend on the party leadership’s directive.
According to Congress insiders, the party believes that “manipulative practices” by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) skewed the electoral outcomes in its favour, contributing to Congress’ unexpectedly bad performance.
The newly formed committee has been instructed to investigate claims of corruption, manipulation, and unfair practices allegedly orchestrated by BJP leaders, candidates, and government entities involved in the election process.
Birender Singh, a senior Congress leader, said, “It is essential that Congress pursue a legal course to ensure transparency,” he remarked.
The committee established by Congress includes prominent figures such as K.C. Bhatia, the Chairman of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee’s legal cell, who will serve as the Convener. Other members include MLA Aftab Ahmed, party leaders Virender Rathore and Jaiveer Singh Valmiki, former MLA Vijay Partap Singh, as well as Varinder (Bulle Shah) and Manisha Sangwan.
Party officials have confirmed that, based on the findings of committee, the high command will decide on further legal steps.
