Author Pranjal Sharma’s book, “The Next New: Navigating the Fifth Industrial Revolution” had a book session at ORF New Delhi on Monday, where he spoke with Tessa Myers, Senior Vice President at Rockwell Automation, and Sarah Fallon, Regional Director, UK Government, Science, Innovation, and Technology (India, Middle East).
“The fourth revolution was majorly about technology and only about cost and efficiency, but it forgot about two important issues: sustainability and people and society. So, the fifth revolution is about the planet and sustainability, emerging tech, and people and society,” said Pranjal Sharma.
“The Next New…” identifies and profiles the deep shifts fundamentally changing professional careers and revenue models in every industry—from mobility, aerospace, and intelligent manufacturing to green energy, automation, artificial intelligence, and a range of disruptive technologies. Driven by emerging technologies, demand for social inclusion, and the urgency of sustainable practices, a multi-trillion-dollar transition is underway.
The book offers a useful roadmap for companies as they get ready for the new ecosystem being created, helping to articulate the fifth industrial revolution more effectively. It does this by drawing on numerous interviews with business leaders and cutting-edge research findings from MarketsandMarketsTM.
“This is a book that needed to be written. Pranjal nails it in his understanding of how sustainability and social impact are the cornerstones of all future technology breakthroughs,” says Bracken P. Darrell, President, and CEO, Logitech International.
New Delhi-based Pranjal Sharma is an economic analyst and writes on technology, globalization and inclusive growth. He is an adviser to boards and international organizations.
A former head of Bloomberg TV in India, he has been a speaker at various fora in Europe, Asia, and Africa. “The Next New” is his third book on technology-led transformations.
