Mahayuti Alliance dominated Maharashtra elections, securing 236 seats, sweeping regions like Vidarbha, Konkan, and Western Maharashtra.

New Delhi: As the Mahayuti alliance swept the Maharashtra elections on Saturday, winning 236 of the state’s 288 Assembly seats, leaving behind the Maha Vikas Aghadi at 48 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party alone secured a massive 132 seats, while Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena won 57, and Ajit Pawar’s
NCP claimed 41 seats.
An analysis by The Sunday Guardian showed that the Mahayuti dominated across all regions of Maharashtra, including Vidarbha,
Western Maharashtra, and the Konkan region, firmly outpacing the opposition. Here is a break-up-
Western Maharashtra
Known as the “Sugar Bowl of Maharashtra,” this region comprises 70 Assembly seats, of which the Mahayuti Alliance secured a commanding 54 seats. In the 2019 elections, the Sharad Pawar-led NCP had won 27 seats, while the BJP claimed 20. Congress took 12 seats, the undivided Shiv Sena won five, and smaller parties, including Surajya Janashakti and independents, captured the remainder.

Konkan

The coastal belt of Maharashtra, with 75 Assembly seats, saw the Mahayuti Alliance win a staggering 65 seats. In the 2019 elections, the unified Shiv Sena had won 29 seats, while its then-ally BJP secured 27, giving their coalition a stronghold of 56 seats. Congress and the NCP were limited to less than 15 seats combined.

Vidarbha

A stronghold of the ruling Mahayuti Alliance, this region has 62 Assembly seats, of which the coalition won 48. In comparison, the BJP had secured 29 seats in the 2019 elections, demonstrating a significant increase in dominance.

Marathwada

This region, with 46 Assembly seats, saw the Mahayuti Alliance claim 41 seats. In the 2019 elections, the BJP and the undivided Shiv Sena together had won 28 seats, while Congress and the NCP secured eight seats each. Two seats were claimed by other parties.

North Maharashtra

Although the smallest region with 35 Assembly seats, North Maharashtra remains politically significant. Here, the Mahayuti Alliance achieved an overwhelming victory, winning 32 seats. In the 2019 elections, the BJP had led with 13 seats, followed by the NCP with seven, the Shiv Sena with six, and Congress with five. Additionally, AIMIM and independents had won two seats each.
