Mewar is gateway to THE Rajasthan Assembly

NewsMewar is gateway to THE Rajasthan Assembly

NEW DELHI

The Mewar region in southern Rajasthan is not merely a place of courageous warriors like Maharana Pratap, Rana Sanga, and many others, it is also the gateway to the 200-seat of Rajasthan Assembly. This region, except in the last election, has always voted for the party that comes to power. However, in the last election, this was an exception, as the BJP won 15 seats while Congress could only manage 10 seats. But this time, the BJP has prepared itself more in this region. It has roped in a descendant of Maharana Pratap, Vishvaraj Singh Mewar, son of Mahendra Singh Mewar, ruler of the erstwhile princely state of Udaipur. This will boost the already strong BJP in the region. The Mewar region consists of Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Bhilwara, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand districts, and Pirawa Tehsil of Jhalawar district. The region has 28 Assembly seats. In the 2008 Assembly elections, the BJP could only win 7 seats, while the Congress won 19 seats. However, tables turned in the 2013 elections when the BJP outnumbered Congress and bagged 25 seats, while Congress was reduced to only 2 seats. However, in the 2018 Assembly elections, the BJP maintained its lead, winning 15 seats, while the Congress managed 10 seats. Mewar has given Rajasthan four Congress chief ministers, including Mohan Lal Sukhadia, the longest-serving chief minister of Rajasthan, who was elected from the Udaipur constituency as a Congress candidate.
