SRINAGAR: Thousands gather in Pattan as Sajad Gani Lone blames Abdullahs for Kashmir’s woes; Mehbooba Mufti criticizes BJP, calls for support.

On Friday there was a huge public gathering at Pattan in the Baramulla parliamentary segment where thousands of people participated and listened to J&K Peoples Conference chief and candidate from Baramulla, Sajad Gani Lone.

He blamed the National Conference for the “gun culture and bloodshed” in Kashmir valley.

He said that National Conference (NCP) leadership, especially the Abdullahs, should provide a transparent account of their achievements in the public good of Kashmir in the parliament.

He blamed the Abdullahs for killing thousands of civilians during their tenures as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He said, “In 1996 when Farooq Abdullah came back as chief minister there were a lot of killings and fake encounters and finally he was probed by Justice Pandya. When Omar Abdullah came in in 2010 there were mass killings too. The youngsters of Kashmir want a change.”

On Friday Mehbooba Mufti conducted a road show in Ganderbal and many came on the streets.

Talking with reporters after the speech Mehbooba said that bail to Arvind Kejriwal by the Supreme Court is a welcome step for the I.N.D.I.A. Alliance to galvanise public support.

She blames the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for communalising the situation and dubbing Muslims as infiltrators out to grab the gold – mangalsutras of Hindu women.

She regretted that EC is not taking any action against the BJP for such statements. For the three Lok Sabha seats of Kashmir BJP has not fielded any candidate.

National Conference candidate from Baramulla and Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has dubbed Sajad Gani Lone, Altaf Bukhari and Ghulam Nabi Azad as the proxies of BJP in Kashmir.

Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah are trying to portray themselves as the victims of BJP might and power games.

Waheed Ur Rahman Parra who is a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Srinagar parliamentary segment has called in one of the speeches this election as a referendum against BJP for its actions on August 5, 2019, when they issued a Presidential order superseding the 1954 order that made all the provisions of the Indian constitution applicable to Jammu and Kashmir.

Rahman has been slapped with a notice to explain his words about the referendum. He is pitted against National Conference candidate and former minister Aga Ruhullah Mehdi who is also a Shia religious leader.

The high-stakes Srinagar parliamentary constituency is gearing up for an intense electoral showdown on May 13, with a staggering 17.4 lakh voters.

It is in place to mention that prominent candidates are Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi of the National Conference (NC) and Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra of the PDP.
