Noida advances toward high-tech safety as Yogi government accelerates ‘Safe City’ project implementation.
NEW DELHI: Aligned with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision of transforming Uttar Pradesh into ‘Uttam Pradesh’, the Yogi government is accelerating the implementation of the ‘Safe City’ project in Noida.
Treating the Chief Minister’s vision as a core mission, the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (NOIDA) has launched extensive preparations to execute the initiative across six strategic phases. The project is supported by an allocated budget of Rs 208.47 crore to ensure effective execution.
One of the most prominent features of this initiative is the upgradation of Noida’s Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), which will function as the central hub for city-wide monitoring and coordination. Once operational, the project will facilitate the seamless integration of all police stations, the comprehensive CCTV surveillance network, and the city’s traffic management systems with the ICCC. The enhanced system will also include a sophisticated Public Address System, designed to issue real-time emergency notifications and alerts—significantly improving the overall security and responsiveness of city services, with a particular focus on enhancing safety for women.
As outlined in NOIDA’s detailed execution strategy, six major components will be systematically deployed to help transform Noida into a true ‘Safe City’. These essential elements include the establishment of a city-wide Communication Network, development of the Integrated Command and Control Centre, creation of a Data Centre, implementation of a CCTV-based Surveillance Network, deployment of an Intelligent Traffic Management System, and integration of a Geographic Information System (GIS). Each of these components will be enhanced with advanced technologies and merged into a single unified platform, enabling efficient, cohesive city-wide monitoring and rapid emergency response. This centralised infrastructure will serve as a comprehensive solution for managing large-scale incidents and effectively addressing public safety challenges across the city.
A major part of the initiative includes setting up a modern and sophisticated data centre within the ICCC premises. Other advanced facilities planned under the Safe City Project include the deployment of facial recognition systems, digital forensic tools, and an upgraded public address mechanism.
Additionally, the project will incorporate cryptocurrency investigation solutions, panic alert mechanisms, visual display units, bullet PTZ cameras, and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. Altogether, the Safe City infrastructure will cover an area of 225 square kilometers within Noida, dramatically improving the city’s capacity to detect, monitor, and respond to safety threats.
The authority has already begun software installations and is actively upgrading systems to ensure the project’s successful rollout and long-term effectiveness.
A source within the authority told The Sunday Guardian that under the Noida Safe City Project, around 2,634 cameras are set to be installed at 561 locations. The Noida Authority has issued a tender for five types of cameras. Approximately Rs 212 crore is projected to be spent on the entire project.
To support this, 225 kilometers of optical fibre will be laid across the city, connecting all nodes to the Command and Control Centre.
Meanwhile, several project-related issues will be discussed in a pre-bid meeting scheduled for April 22. Following this, the final tender is expected to be issued on May 16. Once Noida is transformed into a Safe City, nearly 10 lakh residents will live under high-tech security 24 hours
