New Delhi: In a historic political shift, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a decisive victory in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, ending a 27-year hiatus from power in the national capital.
The BJP’s triumph is attributed to a combination of strategic grassroots mobilisation and the influential support of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
While traditionally maintaining a non-political stance, the RSS played a pivotal role in bolstering the BJP’s campaign. In the lead-up to the elections, the organisation orchestrated approximately 50,000 “drawing room meetings” across Delhi, engaging directly with residents to discuss key issues and promote the BJP’s vision.
Senior RSS leaders, including Jatin, head of the North India division; Vishal, the state RSS coordinator; Dayanand, the liaison between the BJP and RSS; and state general secretary Anil Gupta, convened weekly to strategise and ensure the BJP’s success in Delhi.
These meetings intensified during the election period, incorporating representatives from affiliated organisations such as Vidya Bharati, Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Rashtriya Sevika Samiti, Laghu Udyog Bharati, and Seva Bharati.
Collectively, they emphasised issues like illegal immigration, religious conversions, and nationalistic policies, which resonated with a broad spectrum of voters, automatically boosting the BJP’s support.
The BJP’s campaign also capitalised on the declining popularity of the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), with allegations of corruption against its leadership becoming a major talking point in the BJP’s campaign, further amplified by the RSS at the ground level.
A senior RSS functionary told TSG that they held three to four drawing room meetings across more than 13,000 booths in the national capital.
Similarly, other organisations under the RSS banner, such as Vishwa Hindu Parishad, maintained a strong presence in slum areas—key voter bases for AAP.
With members of the Sangh Parivar meeting and organising events at every bloc and district, engaging directly with voters, conducting door-to-door campaigns, and organising informal discussions, the BJP’s victory in Delhi was ensured.
