and transformative policies at the NXT Forum 2025, held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. He outlined India’s energy future and economic growth, highlighting the role of sustainable energy solutions, policy reforms, and innovative strategies in shaping the nation’s progress.

Khattar emphasized the crucial role of energy in driving industrial growth, enhancing living standards, and ensuring economic success. He stressed the need for a reliable energy supply, which he sees as a key driver in India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation by 2047.

“A strong economy depends on a robust energy sector, which is vital for both industries and individual needs. As India’s economy grows, energy security and sustainability have become key priorities. With the World Bank projecting a 6.7% GDP growth over the next two years, India must adopt a diverse and resilient energy mix to sustain this momentum,” Khattar said.

He further highlighted that India’s energy sector has seen historic growth, with installed power capacity increasing from 269 GW in 2014 to 466 GW today— an 87% rise. Renewable energy has expanded significantly, with solar power costs dropping from 95 paise to 60 paise per unit, thanks to technological advancements and government initiatives. Projects like Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Parks and waived interstate transmission charges are boosting investments in clean energy. India already houses two of the world’s largest solar parks—Bhadla (2,245 MW) and Pavagada (2,000 MW)—with more on the way.

Khattar emphasized that nuclear power is also gaining traction, with India aiming to expand capacity from 8.2 GW to 100 GW by 2070. Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) are being developed, supported by a Rs 100 crore budget allocation for research.

He stressed the importance of modernizing power distribution, with AI and smart meters helping reduce transmission losses from 25% to 16%. Technologies like IoT-based grid management and drone inspections are enhancing efficiency, while AI-driven autonomous energy trading is set to revolutionize power distribution.

India is also betting on green hydrogen, synthetic fuels, and biofuels to drive the transition away from fossil fuels. The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, launched in February 2024, provides Rs 7,000 crore in subsidies for rooftop solar adoption, already benefiting 9 lakh families, many of whom now enjoy zero electricity bills.

The Union Minister also highlighted that the EV revolution is accelerating, with electricity demand expected to rise by 63,000 billion units by 2030. The EV Charging Infrastructure Guidelines 2024 target 1 lakh charging stations to support this transition, while domestic EV manufacturing is being actively promoted.

India’s energy policies are shaping a self-reliant, sustainable future, with innovations in renewable energy, AI-driven grid management, and nuclear advancements. As India moves forward, it is not just meeting its energy needs but emerging as a global leader in clean technology.
