We are fighting against corruption: Amrita Roy

NewsWe are fighting against corruption: Amrita Roy

BJP candidate, Amrita Roy, said that she is fighting for welfare of the people of Krishnanagar.

Krishnanagar is witnessing an extremely high-octane election pitch. In the poll fray, there are two high-profile candidates from the TMC and BJP. The state-ruling party TMC has fielded expelled MP Mahua Moitra, while the BJP has fielded Amrita Roy, a member of Krishnanagar’s royal family.

In an exclusive interview with The Sunday Guardian, the BJP’s candidate, Amrita Roy, said that she is fighting against corruption and for the cause and welfare of the people, as they have been deprived of their fundamental rights for a very long time.

Q: You are contesting the Lok Sabha election for the first time. What’s your strategy for it?

A: First, let me go through the whole thing. As the honourable Prime Minister has told me, I should be ready with the 100 days of plan. So, we are working on that. But I’m so busy with the campaigning that I can’t do much on that, but we have to set it in a format, and then only I can tell you more.

Q: How will you tackle your opponent, Mahua Moitra?

A: I don’t have to tackle anyone, as I am fighting against corruption. I am fighting for the cause. I am fighting for the welfare of the people because they have been deprived of their fundamental rights for a very long time. They cannot talk because if they talk against the ruling party, then they have to face severe consequences, like threatening, bombing, and maybe their children getting kidnapped. The second point is that many people are jobless, and hence I intend to reopen the closed sugar mill. I want to ensure jobs to at least some people. So, I think my path is different from Mahua Moitra’s because she has been there for the last five years but hasn’t done proper work.

Q: What did the Prime Minister tell you in his recent phone call with you?

A: He gave me best wishes and good advice. He said I have to focus on the work, not what the opposition is saying. They are spreading all sorts of rubbish, canons, and rumours, so these things I have to ignore and go ahead with my plan.

Q: What’s your plan for Krishnanagar?

A: See, my plan is very simple. After winning, my priority is to resolve their issues and start development work in Krishnanagar. As you can see, Krishnanagar had a lot of problems, like water drainage, waterlogging, roads, transport cleanliness, etc. People have to buy water. But to put an end to this, we intend to set up a water station or water plant so that people will get proper drinking water. Another thing on my list is to construct a flyover over the railway crossing that will ease traffic. Third, during the rainy season, the whole of Krishnanagar gets flooded with rainwater due to a lack of a proper drainage system. So, another thing we plan to do is develop a proper drainage system in the constituency. It is evident that 100 days of work means 100 types of work we have to do.

Q: Any action plan for the Bengal BJP for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections?

A: Bengal BJP has set a target of a 100-day work plan. In 100 days, Bengal BJP will perform 100 types of work. The Bengal BJP will try to resolve all the problems that an individual is facing. The farmers are suffering because they don’t have a proper mode of operation and transport operation, and due to this, all their vegetables are getting rotten. Not only this, but they’re always middlemen. So we are talking to the railways and trying to find a solution for it so that farmers in Bengal can benefit from it.

Q: How will Modi’s guarantee benefit the Bengal BJP in the election?

A: Every Indian believes in Modi’s guarantee, as it is the guarantee of competition. It will provide a lot of inspiration and courage to every leader and worker of the BJP. This courage will help us fight against the opposition and win this election with flying colours.

Q: What’s your take on all the allegations against Mahua Moitra?

A: I won’t say anything about it as the Enforcement Directorate is investigating the case and going through the process. I think she needs to cooperate with the investigating agency.

Q: How many seats will the BJP win in Bengal?

A: We are optimistic that the BJP will emerge victorious in more seats than in 2019. Wherever I’m going for campaigning, the response is very, very good. Our target is to win 35 out of 42 seats. And we will definitely achieve our target and win 35 seats.
