The celebration of Lord Jesus Christ’s coming into the world resembles a breaking dawn, urging us to awaken, prepare, and walk in Christ’s light. The Gospel of Matthew 24:37–44 sets the tone, calling us to be vigilant: “You must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect”(Matt. 24:44).It challenges us to abandon spiritual complacency and embrace a life of purpose and anticipation.
In Romans 13:11–14, St. Paul urges believers to wake from sleep and “cast off the works of darkness” (v. 12). Advent calls us to examine our lives, shed wayward behavior, and embrace a life of virtue. Similarly, Isaiah 2:1–5 presents a vision of hope and peace, urging us to “walk in the light of the Lord” (v. 5). This passage inspires us to seek not only personal transformation but also justice and reconciliation in the world.
The Gospel of Matthew urges us to stay ready and watchful, comparing Christ’s return to the sudden flood in Noah’s time. Advent calls us to live intentionally by deepening prayer, serving others, and fostering gratitude. Its themes of hope, light, and preparation guide us: hope assures us of God’s faithfulness, light symbolizes Christ’s presence dispelling darkness, and preparation aligns our lives with the Gospel, keeping our faith active and vibrant.
We are called to be bearers of Christ’s light and witnesses to His love, embracing this season with anticipation, hope, and readiness for the coming of His kingdom. Let us prepare with joy and purpose, trusting in God’s promise that “the night is far gone; the day is at hand” (Rom. 13:12).
As we prepare for Christ’s coming, how can we be peacemakers in our families, workplaces, and communities? How can we reflect God’s light in a world often marked by division and darkness?
May we live each day in readiness, bringing Christ’s peace and love to a waiting world. Let’s love and serve all.
