The beginning of a new year is always full of promise. It’s an occasion to assess what the previous year gave to us, and to set out expectations for the coming twelve months. As far as the world of gadgets is concerned, 2017 proved to be a cracker of a year, while 2018 promises to bigger, better and smarter than ever. Tech firms around the world are bracing for another competitive year. And this means that consumers smartphones, tablets, laptops and AI devices will be left spoilt for choice over the coming months. Big brands like Apple, Samsung and LG are jumping into the fray with some of their most-anticipated gadgets scheduled for an early 2018 release. The six upcoming devices listed below are reasons enough for tech enthusiasts to start celebrating. 

IPHONE SE 2

iPhone SE 2 will be manufactured at the Taiwanese original design manufacturer (ODM) Wistron at its Bengaluru factory that has already produced the original iPhone SE in 2016. The SE 2 might have Apple’s A10 Fusion chip that made its entry with iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus last year. The phone may also come with 12-megapixel rear camera and 5 megapixel front camera. Now, when iPhone has already touched the premium segment with the launch of iPhone X, Apple is looking towards the other side with its launch. The device is expected to be priced at Rs 29,200. The iPhone SE 2 is believed to release in March 2018.

SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE X

Samsung Galaxy Note X is the first foldable smartphone in India which is set to launch next year. The device is likely to have a 5.0 inch flexible OLED Display that will open up into a 7 inch tablet. It is also expected to come with 4K resoultion, so that even when folded the resolution is high. Note X might come with 8 megapixel secondary camera along with Iris scanner and 12 megapixel rear camera along with phase detection autofocus. It is also believed that the foldable device might have display integrated fingerprint scanner. Galaxy Note X is expected to be priced at Rs 39,990.

OCULUS GO

Oculus Go is a VR headset designed with breathable fabrics, adjustable straps and can also be used while wearing glasses. Users can indulge themselves in over 1,000 VR games, social apps and 360 degree experience. The VR headset will also play a role of personal and portable theatre wherein users can watch their favourite movie, game, sport or TV show. Oculus Go will come with 3D immersion Crystal-clear optics, integrated spatial audio and optimized 3D graphics to give a better virtual experience. Oculus Go is expected to launch in early 2018 and is likely to be priced around Rs 13,000.

LG GRAM

LG Gram is a next-generation ultra-thin notebooks. It will feature Intel’s latest quad-core 8th generation Core i5/i7 processors, optional Thundebolt 3 connectivity and a higher-capacity battery life. The notebook camera might come with Carbon Magnesium alloy, light sensor and microphone. The laptop will also come in three versions—3.3-inch, 14-inch and 15-inch models. LG Gram Notebook is set to be unveiled in CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2018. The Price and availability will be announced at the time of the launch.

APPLE HOMEPOD

Apple HomePod is a powerful speaker which adapts to surrounding wherever it is playing and along with Apple music, user will get instant access to music catalogs. The voice of the speaker will also be controlled with the intelligence of Siri. The speaker features Apple-engineered audio technology and advanced software to deliver the highest-fidelity sound. The speaker will come with Appledesigned A8 chip, highexcursion woofer, seamless mesh fabric, sixmicrophone array and seventweeter array. Users can also connect HomePod to multiple rooms and the speakers will communicate with each other through AirPlay 2. Innovative signal processing allows Siri to hear users’ requests to change music even with the music playing at full blast. HomePod is also a hub to control smart home accessories with the help of Siri. Apple HomePod is expected to release early 2018 and is likely to be priced at Rs 22,000 approximately.

SAMSUNG GALAXY S9

Samsung Galaxy S9 will have a glass back and will have an in-screen fingerprint sensor and a water repellent coating. In terms of the display, Galaxy 9 is likely to have 5.65 inches of display and comes with infinity display. The Galaxy S9 will be having smaller bezels and Samsung will retain Bixby in its S9 model. The phone will also feature 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone is likely to come with 1,000fps video recording, 3D face scanner and single-lens camera and 3D sensor front camera. The Galaxy S9 will be powered with Snapdragon 845 along with octa-core chip with four cores running at 2.8GHz and 1.8GHz. The chipset will also allows cameras to record 4K Ultra HD video at 60fps. Samsung Galaxy S9 is likely to launch in March 2018 and is expected to be priced at Rs 50,000 approximately.
