New Delhi: Amid ongoing protests, several BJP MLAs highlighted critical issues related to water and sewage problems affecting their constituencies during the Delhi Legislative Assembly session on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht, while speaking in the State Legislative Assembly, drew attention to the severe water crisis in Mustafabad and urged the government to take immediate action to address the shortage of drinking water in the constituency.
“I want to highlight the problems faced by the residents of Mustafabad. The people in the constituency are struggling to access drinking water. Despite the presence of a water treatment plant, the supply of water remains disrupted,” Bisht stated.
He further recalled that the area used to receive clean Ganga water in the past, saying, “When I was the MLA earlier, the people here had access to pure Ganga water, but the current situation has deteriorated drastically. I appeal to the Water Minister to resolve this crisis, as the pipelines that were laid for water supply have been completely damaged.”
Another BJP MLA, Anil Sharma, raised similar concerns about the acute water and sewerage problems in RK Puram. He stated, “In RK Puram, wherever I visited, residents have been voicing their grievances regarding water supply and sewage issues. Many villages in the constituency are facing extremely critical conditions. In several areas, sewage overflows 24 hours a day.” He urged the government to take immediate steps to resolve these problems, emphasizing the distress faced by the residents.
Om Prakash Sharma, BJP MLA from Vishwas Nagar, brought up serious allegations concerning the installation of CCTV cameras across Delhi. He claimed that while the previous government had installed cameras throughout the city, there were major discrepancies in the payments made for these installations.
“I have repeatedly pointed out that in the first phase, the actual number of cameras installed was much lower than what had been promised. However, full payment was still made for the entire projected number of cameras. This is a massive scam,” Sharma alleged.
He revealed that he had written to all relevant agencies to bring this issue to their attention and called for a detailed investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs staged a protest outside the Delhi Assembly on Thursday, just before the commencement of the third day of the new session under the BJP-led government. AAP MLA and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, along with other party MLAs, sat in protest after allegedly being denied entry into the Assembly premises.
AAP leaders claimed that they were stopped from entering the Assembly by the police on the orders of the Speaker and alleged that barricades had been placed at the entrance to prevent them from going inside.
Addressing the media, Atishi said, “The police officers are telling us (AAP MLAs) that we are suspended from the Assembly, and therefore, we will not even be allowed to enter the premises. This action is undemocratic and unconstitutional. Such an incident has never occurred in the history of the country before. Even in Parliament, suspended members are allowed to protest under the Gandhi statue. How can we be stopped entirely? We attempted to speak with the Speaker, but no resolution has been reached.”
Additionally, in a post on X, Atishi further remarked, “AAP MLAs were suspended for three days simply for chanting ‘Jai Bhim.’ Now, they are not even being allowed to enter the Vidhan Sabha premises.”
It is noteworthy that on February 25, Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta extended the suspension of all 21 Aam Aadmi Party MLAs for three more days. These legislators had previously been marshaled out of the Assembly for raising slogans and continuing their protest against the ruling BJP, alleging that the government had removed the photographs of Baba Saheb Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh from the Chief Minister’s office.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht criticized AAP’s conduct, stating that the party’s approach was inappropriate and that the suspended MLAs needed to change their behavior. Speaking to the media, Bisht remarked, “Their conduct has been completely inappropriate. If the Lieutenant Governor is delivering a speech, they should listen to it respectfully. I have never witnessed such behavior before. They need to adopt a more disciplined approach. The people elect us as their representatives, and the party only provides us with a symbol. It is essential for them to understand and maintain the decorum of the Assembly.”
