The Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is dedicated to empowering women and making them self-reliant. Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the Yogi administration is implementing several state-wide initiatives under the Jal Jeevan Mission to enhance women’s participation. These initiatives provide training and employment opportunities at the Gram Panchayat level, fostering independence and self-sufficiency among women in the state.
Women are being trained in five key trades: plumbing, electrical work, fitting, pump operation, and motor mechanics. Additionally, over 4 lakh women across Uttar Pradesh have received training in water quality testing, with specialized masonry training also being introduced.
In a pioneering move, 168 women from self-help groups in Lakhimpur Kheri have been trained as plumbers, fitters, and pump operators. They were also provided with toolkits under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s visionary initiative. Lakhimpur Kheri now stands out as the district with the highest number of trained women in these trades.
District Magistrate Durgashakti Nagpal highlighted that 1,297 women across the state have been trained in these essential skills. She emphasized that the initiative addresses challenges faced by rural women, such as managing water-related issues in the absence of male family members. By empowering women to handle these problems independently, the program fosters greater self-reliance.
To ensure practical expertise, participants underwent hands-on training during a field visit to Kalaam Gram Panchayat in Lakhimpur Kheri, guided by experienced trainers. Toolkits tailored to each trade, including hammers, wrenches, cutters, and testers, were distributed to equip the women for their roles.
This groundbreaking initiative not only promotes independence and security among women but also positions them as role models in their communities. It stands as a testament to the transformative impact of the Yogi government’s empowerment efforts.
