New Delhi: Out of the six assembly elections this year, the Congress party was unable to win any state elections on its own except with alliances in Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir. The Congress party’s president Mallikarjun Kharge therefore was seen to be angry in the recently held Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting with the leaders who failed to perform in several states.
According to a CWC member, Kharge scolded atleast four top leaders present in the meeting for their inability to upgrade their respective states unit cadres and for their lack of seriousness in devising a proper strategy. The leaders Kharge scolded include, the General Secretary incharge of North Eastern states Ajoy Kumar, Bihar Congress incharge Mohan Prakash, ex chief minister Uttrakhand Harish Rawat and the inhouse ace strategist Sunil Konugolu.
The CWC member added, “Many of these leaders were trying to suggest what the Congress party should do to improve its political standing in states as well as nationally to which Kharge said that since you all know what to do, why haven’t you implemented it in the states where you are incharges. Such was the tone of Kharge that he seemed annoyed with the suggestions.
He pointed out Ajoy Kumar by telling him that he had been incharge of several states and have lost so many elections, and asked him that why hasn’t he applied this information there. And same happened with Mohan Prakash when he gave a list of suggestions as to how the Congress would return, he was also told the same that what has been your performance.”
Kharge had also not spared the inhouse prime strategist of the Congress who was given the responsibility of Haryana and Maharashtra in devising political strategy. The CWC member said, “Kharge said that anybody can work like you (Konugolu) are doing. Wherever you are saying that we will get good numbers, we lose and wherever you are saying we will lose we win. Anybody can be right once or twice if he guesses often. There is no credibility left in your reports.”
In the CWC meeting, Kharge also over rode the statements of Rahul Gandhi after the Gandhi said that the Congress is a party that always takes rebirth and will remain so in the future too. Kharge added that Congress is immortal, one who is immortal does not need rebirth to which the Gandhi scion agreed.
A member sitting in the meeting said, “Rahul Gandhi while referring to the electoral defeats said that one should not be afraid of defeat, that Congress is a party that always takes rebirth and will remain so in the future too.
While Kharge seemed filled up, he couldn’t swallow that statement and smilingly said that no, Congress is immortal, one who is immortal does not need rebirth.
On this, Rahul immediately said that Congress is immortal, this is true. I was talking about Congress coming back with a new face when issues come up and when defeat is faced.”
