It would be illogical to consider as substantively different the planners and facilitators of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack who were based in Pakistan and the ISI-directed network of Indian citizens who were working in tandem with them. The fact is that the attack could never have taken place if the latter had not fully cooperated with the ISI. Soon after the attacks, the present writer was briefed on the inner story behind the attack, which clearly revealed the Pakistan link. Based on the briefings received from sources, a report was written on 1 December 2008 in UPI.com about the details of the attack. The briefings made clear that the ISI had willing accomplices, a very small number, among even the employees of the hotels attacked. Complete details of the room plan on each floor were revealed, as also the location of the iconic lounge that faced the sea. It should be repeated that a much larger number of employees of the hotel showed exemplary courage and devotion to duty on that day, and sometimes at the cost of their own lives, were able to protect the lives of many
Identifying and neutralising the terror facilitators in the US and Canada is an essential step in ridding India of terror attacks. There are nests of K-Group supporters in Australia and the UK as well. Where the UK is concerned, the Starmer government has so far resisted pressure from within the country to conduct an official enquiry into the way in which “grooming” gangs have been preying on British girls, some not even in their teens. The reason is that the immigrants from Pakistan are an important segment of several constituencies where the Labour Party has defeated the Conservatives. Such self-abstention from conducting a comprehensive enquiry springs from the belief that the community as a whole backs such predatory gangs. The reality is that most UK citizens of Pakistani origin are unhappy with such gangs for giving the entire community a bad name. Votes for Labour would not suffer much, while such a loss would be more than compensated by additional votes from the majority ethnicity in the UK after seeing that Labour is serious about eliminating such gangs. In Australia, which has fewer grooming gangs than the UK, the problem facing India is that the K-Group is active there. Action against them has not been of the required level because of the widespread belief within the majority ethnic community is that the overwhelming majority in the Sikh community favour the K-Group, when the reality is the opposite. Under PM Modi, assisted in such matters by EAM Jaishankar, the government has the leadership required to make such a case to Canberra, as it does to London. The terror factories active in India cannot be fully eliminated in the absence of sufficient cooperation from the US, UK, Canada and Australia. Under President Trump, the US is now helping India to eliminate the K-Group and other terror networks that have long been nurtured in that country. Given the risk of such networks launching terror attacks even in the country in which they are citizens, the smart thing to do is what President Trump has done, seek to eliminate them. Given the strong steps being taken by the Union government, elimination of such networks is no longer an impossible objective.
