For twenty-five years, Johnny looked in songs, philosophy, in the delights of carnal desires; the more he indulged, the less satisfied he was. Johnny’s encounter with Christ transformed him, yet the struggles continue! Now he wrestles in his heart and mind to love God, and when he wavers from the path of righteousness, he repents. As Paul said in Romans 7, we desire to do what is right but see ourselves doing the wrong we do not want to do. Some steps to help us live fruitful life are as follows.
Learn to Bring Thoughts Under Control. Every battle is won or lost in the heart and mind. Before you dwell too much on any thought, ask yourself if that will lead you to sin. Philippians 4:8 “Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” Meditate on the Word of God.
However, hectic life may become never neglect to study the bible. Daily. God commanded Joshua always to keep the Word of God on his lips; meditate on it day and night so that he may be careful to do everything written in it. Then he will be prosperous and successful. (1:8). Reading the word refreshes your mind and Spirit and keeps you focused, for faith works itself out in love (Gal.5:6).
Make Prayer a Habit. Not only in the morning, but our every breath should also be a prayer. The familiar Jesus prayer you can recite is “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” Pray at every moment, at any place and at all times! We overcome desires that take us away from God through the Holy Spirit. Be Accountable to Somebody. Find someone or a small group of people who are strong in the faith and committed to spiritual growth to be accountable to live a victorious life!
