Informed sources in the US say that regime change operations have indeed taken place against the democratically elected Government of India, and have been on fast track mode since the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
New Delhi: Ever since he assumed the office of Prime Minister of India in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been the target of a systematic effort to undermine him and weaken his hold over the people of India. Now the factual contours of such efforts are becoming clearer as a consequence of revelations from Washington. President Donald Trump is causing panic in the traditional US establishment by his uncovering of covert operations that have a long bipartisan history of being covered up. If they were to be revealed to the US public, they would become known in other parts of the world, hence the complete keeping away from the US public of substantial information on operations of select US agencies by both Republican as well as Democratic administrations. While the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has also been conducting such operations, as in Bangladesh under Sheikh Hasina, they have been much more effective at covering up such misdeeds than US administrations have. It may be recalled that in the Nixon Watergate transcripts, a reference was made by President Nixon to secret information about the disastrous Bay of Pigs operation in 1961. As yet the full facts about the operation have yet to be made public. In contrast, President Trump has ordered the release of hitherto secret information on the John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King assassinations, and such information is expected to be made public in tranches shortly. At the same time, barring Matt Gaetz, who became unconfirmable by the US Senate as a consequence of alleged misdemeanours, including with underage women, every other security choice of President Trump has been confirmed by the US Senate Republican majority, with the casting vote of US Vice-President J.D. Vance being needed only by Secretary of Defense Peter Hegseth, a former US Army officer now put in charge of the Pentagon.
Among such confirmations has been the National Security Advisor, the Director of National Intelligence, the Director of the CIA and the Director of the FBI. Whether it be Mike Waltz, Tulsi Gabbard, John Ratcliffe or Kash Patel, each is of the same view as President Trump and Vice-President Vance, that the institutions they are now heading need substantial changes to be made so as to better meet the security needs of the US public. Small wonder that the traditional establishment, which for long has played footsie with US interests while coddling the Sino-Wahhabi lobby, is in panic mode, and is inspiring media report after media report of “a Republican revolt against Trump”. Among the misdeeds now uncovered are efforts to weaken and finally remove from office the Narendra Modi government. These are being sought to get covered up, including by stating that while such operations did indeed take place, the target was not PM Narendra Modi but Sheikh Hasina, PM of Bangladesh. This is a case of interested sources using technical arguments to cover up the truth, which is that the scale of external regime change efforts in India has been substantial.
Informed sources in the US say that regime change operations have indeed taken place against the democratically elected Government of India, and have been on fast track mode since the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Funds for the purpose of engineering regime change were camouflaged through innocuous titles such as “promotion of democracy” and “strengthening grassroots democracy”. They add that not just USAID but multiple US agencies with links to the then US administration were in the picture as well. Whether the $21 million pointed to by President Trump as having been used for election interference in India was intended for India or for Bangladesh as is being claimed by some, the reality is that several times that amount were disbursed for regime change operations in India. Not just elements of the then US government but quasi-government and non-government agencies contributed to the effort as well. While they came very close to their target of 220 or less BJP Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 polls, 240 seats were won by the BJP, and that was sufficient to ensure a third term for Prime Minister Modi. Now that the Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered a probe into foreign interference in elections, it is anticipated that the Ministry of External Affairs will talk to the US side to ensure full disclosure of the facts.
Given that substantial amounts were expended on efforts within the US at defeating Donald Trump in the 2016, 2020 and 2024 US Presidential polls, efforts that were successful in the 2020 polls, there is ample incentive for President Trump to conduct a comprehensive probe into such matters. Both Prime Minister Modi and President Trump have been the target of multiple disinformation and misinformation media outlets, many linked to the Sino-Wahhabi lobby. Xi Jinping is uneasy at leaders who put their country first, the way PM Modi and President Trump have. As much as some anti-India elements in the US do, Xi would like to see such leaders replaced by those susceptible to the lures of foreign forces, including those hostile to the US and India. As earlier pointed out, in India PM Modi has been the target of a relentless assault of negative messaging on him, both personal and political. It would be public service of a high order were the agencies and individuals behind such efforts were to be named and shamed, as a deterrent to future Raja Jaichands and Mir Jafars.
