The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has initiated an internal inquiry and issued immediate suspension orders following the arrest of five of its personnel, including a lady constable, by the Kolkata Police. The personnel were apprehended for allegedly conducting a fake Income Tax raid and looting a house near Kolkata on March 18.
In an official statement, the CISF confirmed that a senior officer has been assigned to lead the internal investigation, which will be completed within a fixed timeframe. The force assured strict disciplinary action against any personnel found guilty. The statement further emphasized that all five personnel have been suspended with immediate effect and reaffirmed CISF’s full cooperation with the Kolkata Police in the ongoing investigation. Future course of action will be determined based on the findings of the internal probe.
According to the Kolkata Police, five CISF personnel, along with three others, were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly looting a house while masquerading as Income Tax officials. The arrested CISF personnel include an inspector, a head constable, and three constables, one of whom is a lady constable. The inspector was apprehended from Farakka in Murshidabad district, while the head constable and one constable were taken into custody from Durgapur. The remaining two were arrested from the Port area of Kolkata.
The case originated from a complaint filed by Vinita Singh, a resident of Chinar Park, located on the northern outskirts of Kolkata. In her complaint on March 18, she alleged that her house was raided and looted in the early hours of the day by individuals posing as Income Tax officials. The accused allegedly seized Rs 3 lakh in cash and jewellery without providing any official seizure list. Additionally, they took away the digital video recorder (DVR) of the CCTV cameras installed at her residence, which raised suspicions among the family members. This prompted them to lodge a complaint with the police.
Upon investigation, the police analyzed CCTV footage from the surrounding area and apprehended the driver of the pickup van used in the crime. The driver’s confession led to the arrest of a middleman involved in the incident. Further interrogation of the middleman revealed the direct involvement of the CISF personnel, leading to their subsequent arrest.
Authorities continue to probe the matter, while CISF remains committed to taking necessary actions against those found guilty.
