Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut has got feelers from the BJP leadership that she could be fielded in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Mathura seat in Uttar Pradesh, sources said. The constituency covers the entire Mathura district. Party leaders have suggested that the BJP has been in pursuit of a candidate who could replace the incumbent Member Parliament Hema Malini from the LS segment. Aditya Rathi, a political analyst in the state, said, “She is an old lady now. There is a constant need for a politician to get in touch with its electorate; however, Malini has failed to do so. She is less aware of the dynamics of her constituency. Kangana Ranaut can replace her and contest the elections as she is fresh and a popular face and is thoroughly inclined towards the Hindutva ideology which will supplement the BJP’s image and help it contest well with her firebrand statements.”
Recently, when Ranaut was asked by the media about contesting the Lok Sabha elections, she said: “If Shri Krishna is pleased, I will contest.” Taking the name of Shri Krishna is also seen as an indication that she can contest elections in place of Malini, who has been MP from Mathura twice on BJP ticket. Kangana had visited the place to offer prayers at the famous Dwarkadhish temple of Lord Krishna. Before Malini, it was Jayant Chaudhary of Rashtriya Lok Dal who had contested from the seat in 2009 and won.
