NEW DELHI: Congress aims to regain power in Delhi by revitalising grassroots support and contesting the Assembly elections independently, post-Lok Sabha elections.

Riding on the momentum from recent Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party is determined to regain its former influence in Delhi, where it once governed for 15 years. Following an increase in their vote share in the capital, the Congress has resolved to prioritise revitalising grassroots support and will contest the Delhi Assembly elections independently. The party clarified that its alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was limited to the Lok Sabha elections, and internal dissatisfaction with this alliance has led Congress workers to favour an independent bid for the Assembly.

Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav highlighted that the surge in Congress’ vote share in the recent Lok Sabha elections has sparked renewed enthusiasm among party workers and the general public. He expressed confidence that the party will perform significantly better in the forthcoming Delhi Assembly elections, driven by public frustration with the perceived misrule, incompetence, and corruption of both the AAP and BJP governments.

To bolster the Pradesh Congress at the grassroots level, Yadav has initiated district-level and booth-level meetings with party workers. He stated, “These meetings will activate and rejuvenate Congress workers, helping to strengthen the party at the booth level and restore Congress to power in the Delhi Assembly.” Party workers are engaging in door-to-door campaigns to highlight the failures of the AAP and BJP, as well as the notable development achievements of the Congress government during its previous tenure in Delhi.

Yadav emphasised his commitment to direct engagement with Congress workers, valuing their feedback as crucial to the party’s foundation. He urged collective effort to enhance the party’s presence at the booth level and garner public support.

Yadav assured Congress workers that the party will contest the upcoming elections independently, reaffirming that the previous alliance with AAP was confined to the Lok Sabha elections. He noted that the increased vote share in the Lok Sabha polls indicates a public preference for Congress to contest the Assembly elections solo. “Congress will achieve a significant victory in the Assembly elections,” Yadav asserted. “The poor, middle class, downtrodden, SCs, minorities, labourers, and street vendors stand firmly with Congress, distressed by issues such as price rises, unemployment, corruption, and overall governance.”

Yadav criticised the AAP and BJP for their failure to address key issues such as water shortages, power tariff hikes, waterlogging, and water theft, instead blaming each other without providing solutions. He emphasised that Congress amplifies the voice of the people from the streets to Parliament. Yadav commended Rahul Gandhi’s ongoing campaign to defend the Constitution and challenge the Modi government’s authoritarian tendencies, noting that public trust in Congress is growing as a result.
