In a pioneering effort, the Uttar Pradesh Police has deployed underwater drones with advanced imaging technology to patrol the riverbed at the Triveni Sangam.
The 2025 Maha Kumbh is set to be an extraordinary event, marked by a rare celestial alignment of the Sun, Moon, Jupiter and Saturn. This alignment heralds the most auspicious Maha Kumbh in 144 years, drawing an anticipated 40 crore devotees from around the world to partake in sacred rituals at the Triveni Sangam. Such an extraordinary event necessitates extraordinary measures in terms of safety and security, and this is enhanced by the groundbreaking integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced surveillance technologies.
To effectively manage the massive influx of attendees, over 2,750 CCTV cameras equipped with AI-powered video analytics will monitor movements throughout the event. This initiative represents the largest face recognition exercise ever conducted in India. Specialized cameras for number plate recognition and crowd movement monitoring will further enhance the efficiency of crowd management.

The AI-powered chatbot, named “Kumbh Sah’AI’yak,” will provide real-time, uninterrupted responses, acting as a free 24/7 guide. It will offer navigation support and tailored cultural insights to enrich the experience of attendees.
This chatbot will also feature multi-lingual support in 11 languages, seamlessly integrating with Google Maps. This functionality will help visitors navigate the expansive Mela ground, ensuring they can focus on their spiritual journey without the worry of getting lost.
Logistical operations will also benefit from innovative technology. A drone-based monitoring system will oversee the efficient distribution of resources, ensuring that essential supplies reach their destinations promptly. This proactive approach is crucial for disaster management, enabling quick responses to any unforeseen incidents during the event.
The Mela ground has been meticulously mapped using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology, integrated with Google Maps to optimize planning and resource allocation. Authorities have divided the area into 10 zones and 25 sectors, utilizing drone surveys and data from previous Kumbhs to refine their strategies. This comprehensive preparation promises a seamless experience for both devotees and organizers.
At the 2025 Maha Kumbh, the combination of celestial significance and technological innovation creates a remarkable synergy of tradition and modernity.
