BJP to launch Parivartan Yatra ahead of Delhi Assembly polls

NewsBJP to launch Parivartan Yatra ahead of Delhi Assembly polls

BJP’s Parivartan Yatra aims to expose AAP’s failures and promote a new governance model for Delhi.

New Delhi: The outcome of the Maharashtra Assembly elections has boosted the confidence of BJP leaders, who now believe they can replicate similar success in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Despite performing well in Delhi during Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has struggled to gain ground in the state Assembly polls for decades. However, the party is determined to oust the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government in the elections scheduled for mid-February to March 2025. Although the Election Commission of India has yet to announce the official election dates, the BJP has already launched its campaign. As part of its strategy, the Delhi BJP will initiate the Parivartan Yatra across all 70 Assembly constituencies, starting December 8, 2024, and continuing until December 20, 2024. The Parivartan Yatra will be led by former NDMC Vice Chairperson Satish Upadhyay.
This initiative aims to highlight what the party describes as 10 years of misgovernance under the Kejriwal administration, accusing it of making false promises and failing to deliver on issues crucial to the people of Delhi.
Satish Upadhyay, former Vice Chairman of New Delhi Municipal Council and former president of Delhi BJP unit said, “Starting December 8, the BJP will launch its Parivartan Yatra to spotlight the alleged misgovernance of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and expose the ‘lies and corruption’ of the Kejriwal-led government.”
He accused the current administration of causing significant hardships for Delhi residents over the past decade. The yatra aims to highlight the failures and corruption of the AAP government, which Upadhyay claimed has undermined democracy and the Constitution.
Upadhyay criticised the AAP government, accusing it of fostering an environment of corruption, extortion, and intimidation. According to Upadhyay, these tactics are not only meant to enrich a select few, but also to instil fear among ordinary citizens, effectively silencing dissent and criticism. He argued that the AAP government has failed to uphold democratic values and constitutional principles, contributing to a governance crisis in the national capital. Upadhyay further claimed that the people of Delhi are disillusioned with the Kejriwal administration and are now yearning for a leadership change.
The BJP’s Parivartan Yatra, according to Upadhyay, is a crucial step in presenting the party’s vision for Delhi. He described it as more than just a political campaign—it is a movement to awaken citizens and rally support for a new governance model based on transparency, accountability, and development. The yatra will strategically begin at significant places of worship in each constituency, symbolising a connection with the people’s faith and traditions. It will also feature prominent national BJP leaders, whose participation is expected to energise party workers and bolster the BJP’s message. This initiative, Upadhyay emphasised, will provide a platform to directly engage with residents, address their grievances, and lay out the BJP’s roadmap for Delhi’s future.
A senior Delhi BJP leader explained that seven yatras would be launched daily from the city’s seven parliamentary constituencies, covering one Assembly constituency per day. Each yatra will begin in the morning and conclude with a corner meeting in the evening. Unlike vehicle processions, these will be padyatras (foot marches), facilitating direct interaction with approximately 20,000 families in each constituency.
