BANWARILAL PUROHIT RESIGNS AS PUNJAB GOVERNOR AMIDST ‘CENTRE’S DISPLEASURE’

NewsBANWARILAL PUROHIT RESIGNS AS PUNJAB GOVERNOR AMIDST ‘CENTRE’S DISPLEASURE’

Sources claim that the Central government expressed displeasure with Governor Purohit over the Chandigarh mayoral election confusion.

Banwarilal Purohit, who assumed the role of Punjab Governor in August 2021, tendered his resignation on Saturday, citing “personal reasons.”
The three-time Member of Parliament, having represented both the Congress and BJP from Nagpur, Banwarilal Purohit conveyed his decision to step down in a letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu.

Purohit explained in his resignation letter, “Due to my personal reasons and certain other commitments, I tender my resignation from the post of the Governor of Punjab and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh. Please accept the same and oblige.”
Sources indicate that the central government expressed displeasure with Governor Purohit over the Chandigarh mayoral election confusion and the abrupt termination of 1,300 contracts overnight. Allegedly, these incidents led to the resignation of the UT Administrator from his post, culminating in Purohit’s departure from the office of Punjab Governor.

Before his stint in Punjab, Purohit had previously served as the governor of Tamil Nadu and Assam.
However, during his tenure in Punjab, he found himself embroiled in a protracted exchange of letters with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. Purohit directed a series of letters to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, seeking clarifications on various issues pertinent to the state.
