CHANDIGARH: Congress Lok Sabha candidate Gurjeet Singh expressed concern that despite the election code of conduct being in force, shootings are happening openly.

Gurjeet Singh Aujla, the Congress candidate from Amritsar, was holding a rally in Ajnala as part of the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign. During the rally, a young man was shot by a few individuals due to an old enmity. As a result, a young man named Lovely Kumar from Ugur Aulakh was injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Congress Lok Sabha candidate Gurjeet Singh expressed concern that, despite the election code of conduct being in force, shootings are happening openly, and individuals are roaming in the streets with pistols. He reported that one of their workers was shot at today but narrowly survived. Singh demanded stringent action against those responsible for these incidents.

Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sibin C has requested a detailed report from the Director General of Police (DGP) regarding a firing incident that occurred during a Congress election rally in Ajnala. The request follows a complaint lodged by Gurjeet Singh Aujla, the Congress candidate from Amritsar. In his communication, the CEO urged the DGP to provide a fact-based report as soon as possible to ensure that the Election Commission of India is promptly updated on the situation.

Additionally, the CEO has issued a separate letter to the District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar. This letter seeks an immediate action taken report and calls for a thorough investigation into the incident.
